A NEW DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE GREAT SWEDISH SCIENTIST AND SAGE PREMIERED AT THE NEW YORK ACADEMY OF SCIENCES; NOVEMBER 14, 2000
Commissioned for the 150 anniversary of the Swedenborg Foundation, in 2000, this elegant and informative documentary, produced and directed by Emmy and Maggie-award winner Penny Price, explores the extraordinary life and ideas of Emanuel Swedenborg, called by renowned Zen scholar D. T. Suzuki "the great king of the mystical realm." Interweaving breathtaking nature photography, expert interviews, computer animation, and rare, archival stills with dramatic reenactments of Swedenborg's life-- featuring acclaimed actress Lillian Gish-- this program conveys the essential and ever-relevant insights brought back by Swedenborg from his unprecedented explorations of the spiritual worlds.
Swedenborg documented the death experience as the soul departs its expired material form, awakens into the afterlife realm, is stripped of every accretion of personality, and gravitates to the precise level of the upper or nether regions that corresponds perfectly to its innermost nature. Many aspects of his description find precise parallels in the accounts of people who have described near-death experiences. He expounded the importance of leading a useful life and expressing through service love and wisdom, the two great attributes of the Divine.
In addition, Swedenborg's impressive scientific achievements, his penetrating perception into the Bible's symbolic meaning, and the wide extent of his influence on important thinkers, writers, and artists of many countries are explored. /FONT>
